Library
Director Ellen Riboldi, met with Marshfield’s
Building Inspector Michael Clancy to receive FEMA flood plain maps of Marshfield and educational
brochures. Thousands of houses in town are located in flood plain areas, which
have an impact on insurance rates. To view the maps contact the library at

TIDE POOLS AND
HEDGEROWS
By Jacklyn Robinson,
Library Assistant
What is that
glistening gem lying on the sand? Why, it’s a piece of sea glass of course!
Beach glass, or sea glass? Whichever word you grew up with, collecting sea
glass is evocative of carefree days of beachcombing, shouting with delight when
you spot that elusive piece of cobalt blue!
The library has
several lovely books in its collection. Three of them are by C.S. Lambert: “A
Passion for Sea Glass”; “The Sea Glass Hunter’s Handbook”; and “Sea Glass Chronicles:
Whispers from the Past.” I met the author at a sea glass convention in Hyannis a few years ago,
an incredible event with mind-boggling displays of sea glass and pottery
shards.
The author of the
fourth book in the library’s collection was also featured at the convention.
Richard LaMotte has written “Pure Sea Glass,” a most scholarly work on the
origins and composition of sea glass. Check out Mr. LaMotte’s book if you want
to be fascinated by the story of these treasures from the briny deep. Check out
Ms. Lambert’s books if you just want to be bedazzled!
CHILDREN’S CORNER
By Wendy Ward, Head
of Children’s Services
We are in full swing for this
year’s summer reading program: Dream Big! Read in the children’s room. Kids who have registered for the overall
program will receive a gift certificate from Dairy Queen* for an ice cream cone
at the conclusion of the program and may participate in many other events we
have planned this month in addition to our weekly raffles for Barnes and Noble
gift cards and ice cream gift certificates for the Brant Rock Hop.* Among our
July programs are: singer guitarist Mama Steph, a family movie,
Tuesday/Thursday story crafts, magician Steve Rudolph, and Bugology’s live
insect demonstration. Most of these
events require additional sign-ups or free tickets. Please pick up a calendar in the children’s
room or visit our webpage: www.ventresslibrary.org and click on our
calendar for further information.
*Thank you to the Brant Rock Hop
for their generous donation and thank you to Dairy Queen for partnering with us
in our summer reading program again this year.
